Original Verses
I have compiled some original verses written by myself to be used in Treasured Tapestries designs. A full-fledged poet, I am not! But, short verses seem to come to me from time to time. If the verse is part of a current or future design, it will be so noted.

"Winter's Spirit"© & "Snow Angel Delights"©

About the Verse

fiery leaves take wing
blustery winds sigh
majestic harvests drift
winter's spirit draws nigh. . .

Written for the design, "Winter's Spirit," which was featured in August, 2001, on Olde Willow Stitchery's Designer of the Month page.

These specialty stitch seasonal designs are stitched with Olde Willow Stitchery's hand-dyed floss on Lakeside Linens hand-dyed, washable linens and embellished with Mill Hill Treasures.

Designs available as a set of two designs - "The Four Seasons - Set One" Fall & Winter

smoke swirled chimneys embrace
star sparkled nights
frost-nipped children bestow
snow angel delights

Written for the design, "Snow Angel Delights," which is the companion design in the above set for Fall and Winter.

Just a few thoughts that bring pleasant Winter memories to mind.

"Spring Dawns"© & "Summer's Twilight"©
About the Verse

gentle sunbeams awaken fragrant grass
stunning blooms blanket the earth
butterflies waltz to a feathered chorus
spring dawns with delightful mirth

These verses were written for the Spring and Summer set of designs for "The Four Seasons - Set Two" Spring & Summer.

The Spring verse was written with thoughts of all the beautiful things that return to us in Spring, like the flowers and the butterflies and birds and the warmth of the sun.

sunsets brilliant as northern lights
dancing trees in the summer breeze
starlit fireflies twinkle at night
summer's twilight mellow & sweet

The Summer verse was put together in my mind as I took the dog outside for a walk on a hot summer night. The sun was setting and it was almost dark. The fireflies were blinking everywhere and I just started thinking about a Summer verse. I had to rush inside and write it down quick before it eluded me!

"Crystal World"©
About the Verse
 In a crystal world
of icicle castles
transient faeries
marvel at
snowflake gardens

Written for the design, "Crystal World."

I was just thinking how beautiful a world of icicles and snowflakes might be and perhaps Faeries might live there.

This is a specialty stitch design worked with Caron Wildflowers and Kreinik #4 Very Fine Silver Braid.

"Peaceful Slumber"©
About the Verse

Baby, baby
soft and sweet
let me watch you
while you sleep.

With soft sighs
and gentle breaths
pass the night
in peaceful rest.

Tender caresses
soothe your slumber.
What do you dream of?
I'll always wonder. . .

The Poetry Guild of Ohio - Complete Poem - 1998 semi-finalist

Written for the design, "Peaceful Slumber," which was sold to Leisure Arts Magazine in the Spring of 1999. The poem and design are copyrighted to Leisure Arts.

This design was published in the September 2002 issue of For the Love of Cross Stitch, a Leisure Arts magazine. An article was featured in their "Portrait of a Designer" section along with the design.

Design has an outer border of beaded lazy daisy flowers, with a top and bottom inner border which consists of a beaded diamond band. Upper sides of poem are bordered with satin stitch hearts and beaded vines with a large beaded heart-shaped flower.

Design worked with DMC floss and an overdyed perle coton #8 for the satin stitches with Mill Hill Glass Beads.

This poem was written in a wistful moment that often comes upon me when thinking of my children when they were babies.

Let the moon
and stars above
gaze down upon
our precious love

In golden twilight
where sleep still dwells
lifel's sweeter delights
in time will tell

This is the ending to the poem above. Only the 1st 3 verses were used in the "Peaceful Slumber" design.

"Dreams Untold"©
About the Verse

What is it that yearns
in an artist's soul?
To see beauty
on canvas unfold,
To capture dreams
that were untold,
And share with the world
treasures of gold.

There is no design to go with this verse. . . yet! But, give me time, and I may come up with one.

"In Memory of Heidi"©
About the Verse
As nightfall descends
under a blanket of stars,
I shall not weep her loss
for she will be
forever in my heart.

Written for and about Heidi, a dear friend lost to breast cancer.

I thought they might all go together like one long poem, but this one seems to sound better apart.

"Dreams of Heidi"©
About the Verse

Her lingering spirit
awakens my weary soul
and embraces me
with sweet wisdom.

Her radiant smile
surrounds me with warmth & love
I feel her hand upon me
and know it's an angel from above.

Lost, she leads me
in the shadow of her footsteps
my soul reaches out to her
through the glow of heaven.

And, hope springs
from traces of doubt
and the gentle feeling of peace
soothes my overwhelming loss.

As her shining vision
wavers in the morning mist
she awakens me softly
with her whispers of love.

As I reach out for her
to keep her near
she smiles warmly and says,
I'll always be here.

This verse was written after a dream where Heidi came to visit and we spent a wonderful day togehter.

This is not easy to share. It is so very personal. My hope is that it may help those who have lost a dear one. I can never read it without tears.
