The suggestions below are offered from my own experience as well as that of others. As with everything in life, there are many personal opinions about the various methods for stitching and caring for needlework, and the stitcher must decide for themselves what works best for them.

Stuffed Decoration

Supplies Needed:
Scrap of coordinating fabric
Fiberfill
10" length of 1/4 or 1/2 inch ribbon
Water soluble sewing marker
Thread to match
1 pkg. piping or 1/2 yard of 2 inch lace (optional)

Instructions:
Trim around stitched design in the same manner as for the felt-backed decoration. Overcast edges of linen/aida.

Lay stitched design, right sides together, on coordinating fabric and trace around design with a water soluble sewing marker. Cut out fabric along lines.

Pin lace (or piping), right sides together, around outer edges of stitched design. Stitch in place with a 1/4 inch seam.

Place stitched design and coordinating fabric cut-out, right sides together, being sure loose ends of lace are tucked inside. Stitch around edges in a 1/2 inch seam, being sure to leave an opening of about 3 inches somewhere along the edge for turning.

Turn right side out, pulling all edges out to seams.

Place on towel, with stitched side of design face down and iron flat.

With fiberfill, stuff design to desired firmness.

Hand stitch opening closed.

If you would like to hang your stuffed decoration, cut a 10 inch length of ribbon. Fold under raw edges of ribbon and either stitch to top back center of decoration or attach with a glue gun.

Your stuffed decoration is now done.
