Personal Stitching Album

Welcome to my personal stitching album. I'm working on a new stitch-along with the Kustom Krafts Egroup - See 'Everyone Needs Their Own Space' below.

These are only a fraction of the stitching I've done over the years. Many were given as birthday, wedding, Mother's Day, Christmas, birth announcements and so on. I never even thought to take a photo of each design/craft I made over the years so I can only show you what happens to have been kept for our home.

I've put the copyright info and design name with those that I can identify. As I search through the many magazines and charts I have here, I'll add info. to the others.

Personal Stitching - WIP's

Tiger Reflection - Gold Collection by Dimensions Mini Mystery D by Chatelaine Designs Myrrh by Victoria Sampler Sweet Dreams by JCA Inc.

I'm stitching this design for my DBF who loves, loves, loves tigers. Design is worked on 18 ct Black Aida - I have to use my magnifier for this one.

I started this design as part of a Chatelaine stitch-along - I put it aside for some time and just started working on it again in the last several months. Very pretty on the linen banding.

I always wanted to stitch the Frankincense, Myrrh, and Gold designs by Victoria Sampler. My secret sister from one of my egroups gave me this design as a gift. I have to frog the eyelets and use a magnifier to be sure to stitch each portion of the eyelet in the correct threads. It's a pain having eyes that get 'old' and can't see as well up close.

This design is so beautiful - I started with the wallpaper border at the top of the design.

I'm working this design as part of a stitch-along with Kustom Krafts egroup. It's an adorable design of a kitty in a basket surrounded by flowers and vines. I started at the bottom center and am working my way up.

I'm thinking of making this design into a stocking for DBF's daughter - it's the perfect shape with the flowers running up one side and the basket and kitty across the bottom.

I decided to change her hair to brunette. I really like her this way.

I've had this design in my stash for years and finally started it in the Fall of 2003. I've only done a little as I jump around between my own designs and personal stitching.

Fabric: 32 ct Prairie Grain Linen

I've always loved this design and finally got around to starting it the 2nd week of January 2004.

Fabric: 32 count Cream Linen (not sure of color name)

My first counted needlepoint
Very similar to working counted thread/specialty stitch designs.

Fabric: 18 count Mono Deluxe Canvas Santa Fe Sage

I'm afraid this design will not be completed because it was stored in the cellar after we moved and I was very upset to see it had mold growing on it.

I was working this design for my mom who had done this in paint by number when we were growing up. It hung in our living room until it was lost to a fire that totaled our home. I'm finding the chart very difficult to work from because it's on shiny finished paper and impossible to mark your stiches as you go along.

I started this design to submit to Stoney Creek for model stitching - only the border is left to finish. The amount of color changes made me crazy so I decided not to model stitch for them - even though their designs are lovely.

Fabric: 28 ct Antique Ivory Jobelan

Crewel Embroidery

The needlepoint and crewel designs below were from Creative Expressions (as far as I remember) - a company that used to hold home parties and had many lovely kits. The Spring Tree is actually 2 pieces of fabric sewn together to create the look of the horizon. The Wild Horses are almost all long and short stitch ( I think that's what it was called). It was a lot of work. The Tapestry design on the left was worked on while I was in college. It has stitches worked into in by a little cousin who liked to help me with the stitching.

Below are designs I've designed and stitched for Treasured Tapestries

Towels were stitched by me.

Stockings I've stitched for my children

"Home for Christmas" from the magazine, "Cross Stitch & Country Crafts." Stitched in 1987-1988 for my oldest child.

I couldn't find the special thread for the popcorn, so I used some baby yarn to stitch the french knots of popcorn.

Fabric: 14 ct Ivory Aida (I think!)

My youngest wanted a "Lion King" stocking because she loved the Disney movie. This stocking is a combination of designs from The Keepsake Calendar by Craftworks Corp.

The original design of the animals was worked in a square with the lettering worked around the 4 sides of the square. I had to jostle the animals a bit, add a bottom to the wolf, add more grass/ground and more tree.

I then added the words, "Wrought with tender loving care by Mommy" and my initials 'dds' and the year '1997.'

Fabric: 14 ct Oatmeal Aida

"Sugar & Spice" from the magazine, "Cross Stitch & Country Crafts." Stitched over a number of years for my 2nd child. She kept changing her mind between this stocking and a hardanger snowflake one. It's almost done now. . .she's 15 already!

Fabric: 14 ct Cream Aida (I think!)

Other Cross Stitch
All the designs below (except for the stuffed animal design) are from various U.S. Counted Cross Stitch & Needlework magazines and their yearly calendars. I'm not sure which designs are from which magazines/calendars anymore! But, I subscibed to 'Cross Stitch & Country Crafts' later to be called 'Cross Stitch & Needlework' and received their yearly calendar, 'The Keepsake Calendar' for many years. I also subscribed to 'Cross Stitch!' 'Cross Stitch Quick & Easy' and various magazines/calendars published by The Needlecraft Shop.

There are 3 Halloween bags - one for each of my children, but this is the only one I could find!

The pillows were also made for each of my children.

The fishermen hang in the living room.

These names were stitched for my children and then used to make a small quilt for them.

The little Heart Welcome pillow was made for our front door.

The Tropical Fish were stitched because my children loved the design. I added the names of each fish to the design. They told the names, but didn't chart them to be stitched. I thought it made the picture much more interesting.

The stuffed animal picture was designed by me and stitched for Loves Quilts.

The Soldier & Ballerina reminded me of a story book my daughter loved which I think was also titled, The Soldier & the Ballerina. The jewelry hanger was made for my sister for Christmas one year.

Some Original Crafts

Moon Flower Sweatshirt Design Copyright 1999 Dianne Durgan Sobolewski - All Rights Reserved
The above are all my original designs made for my children. The stocking is made of shaggy felt with regular felt appliques which were attached with fusible webbing and then have accents worked in the running stitch to make them look like they were hand-appliqued. The sweatshirts were fun to make, fiddling with ribbons, buttons, fabric and were machine appliqued. The larger motifs of the kitty and moon were attached with fusible webbing and then machine appliqued.

Original Ragdolls
These are a series of ragdolls I made. They are original designs of mine. There is also a clown ragdoll but I can't find the photo. Most of these were given away as Christmas gifts and each of my girls chose one for themselves.
