Background: Treasured Tapestries
was officially in business from April, 1999 until 2004 - because of
several major events in my life, I decided to stop publishing and
marketing my designs. I am hoping to set up this site with Paypal
again and offer designs for sale again - available for download using
a pdf file or a zip file of the Patternmaker Design File. Artwork,
all types of needlework, sewing & crafts have been a part of my
life for over 25 years. My
mother and grandmothers taught me many kinds of needlework and it
was not uncommon to see my mom and sister and I stitching away as
we watched TV or just visited with each other.
How Designs Progress: Most designs begin
with a pencil or pen & ink sketch, which is transferred to a computer
program for charting of the design. This is where the sketch comes
alive with color through the use of fine fabrics, embroidery floss,
specialty threads, and beads, etc.
After the design is charted, or sometimes before (since I just can't
wait), the stitching begins. Seeing the design take shape with fabric,
threads, and adornments is most rewarding. As I work, I often make
changes until the design is just right. Therefore, I am kept busy
updating the computer chart and stitching at the same time. Next,
comes framing, website building, and all the details (which is a constant
learning process).
Design
History: One of my first designs entitled, "Peaceful Slumber,"
was sold to Leisure Arts in April, 1999. This is a sampler with
an original poem of mine about the joy of watching babies sleep
- One of life's greatest pleasures! It includes a lazy daisy border
and inner beaded diamond bands. Satin stitch hearts and beaded vines
border the poem.
This
design was published in the September 2002 issue of For the Love
of Cross Stitch magazine, along with a Designer Profile for Treasured
Tapestries.
A Need to Share: Through counted
cross stitch, I can share my artwork with everyone. It is another
way to express my creativity. I never could bring myself to part
with my original sketches, except as a gift for an occasional very
special person. Counted Cross Stitch is a perfect combination with
my sketching. I have always been able to draw, but give me a brush
& eeek! I'll ruin it. The floss is my paint and brings my sketches
alive.
Keep
on Stitching & Dreaming! The endearing designs of children
really touch the heart. Other designs will bring your dreams &
imagination alive. All designs inspired by the past or centuries
gone by are researched to be certain the clothing, hairstyles, and
accessories are authentic to the time period.
Thank
you for visiting Treasured Tapestries.
